Anonymous asked: When will the NCCC Fall 2014 open? I got accepted into FEMA for this Fall and I asked them about applying during my term for the next year and they said that I can do that but only winter 2014 is open. It would be impossible for me to do that because my term is over in June and I know winter starts in february. Do u know when they open the fall 2014 application?

kittykatt2113 asked: After being placed on the wait list and sending in the medical and fingerprint forms what is the estimated wait period of finding out if NCCC has accepted me?
mindystevens asked: Hi! I got accepted to Americorps NCCC 2013 Pacific Region and I was wondering if you could give me a better idea of day to day life during the term. Is there PT in the mornings like FEMA? What's the average age in a team? How important is it to have a license?
Anonymous asked: I'm strongly considering taking a year off from college (I'm currently a junior) in order to do Americorps NCCC. I'm nervous that my parents will not allow it - and I'm also nervous that I'll never actually end up going back to finish my last year and get my degree! Are there many people who end up taking a year off from school? What were their experiences like? Thank you!
caitsheesl asked: Hey! I have been keeping up with your blog for a good couple of months now while applying to NCCC. It has been a huge help! I have officially received the e-mail letting me know that I have been wait listed for Fall '13. I was wondering about how long it takes between getting wait listed and finding out if you're placed. I know they have to send me the medical form/finger print card in...
Anonymous asked: Are you able to use personal bank accounts outside of your stipend? Like to pay for bills that existed before your term, etc? Also, I've read you should bring a comforter and a sleeping bag. Do most people bring both or just one? It seems like a lot to bring! Thanks!
towardstheground-gravitysmiled asked: Does NCCC make accommodations for someone that may have a physical impairment? I have scoliosis that can cause a generous amount of pain if I perform large amounts of rigorous work. It doesn't completely disable me, but it can get annoying. I usually just have to ice it and then I'm fine. :) Thanks for doing what you do with this blog! It's given me a lot of insight in my decision...
Anonymous asked: Hey there! So, I'm "officially" on the wait-list for Fall 2013 NCCC.. I'm a senior in high school, and I have a place reserved at my college for next year, and the latest I can request a deferral by is August 1 (although really, I need to sign up for classes etc. before this if I don't get into Americorps). Is there anyone I can get in touch with via the hotline or...
Seeking Assistance!
Hey family! I so appreciate all of the help I’ve received over the past couple years toward answering questions. Many of you have a strong knowledge base from recently completing the application process and the program. I wan to extend my gratitude to you all!
As some of you may have noticed, I took a little couple-week break from answering questions. I am busy with school, volunteer work,...
Anonymous asked: Hey Jordanna! I have a question that may seem weird at first but do you have any input on the different ethnicities or races of the people Americorps accepts? Because ive been through the college process, i guess it just got to my head that applying as a certain race will give you an advantage to getting accepted and the like. Would you say they try to vary the types of people they accept or does...
Anonymous asked: I just accepted to be wait listed. What time frame am I looking at to get a confirmation or will they just spring it on me randomly? Thanks!
Anonymous asked: Hey there, I applied to this fall's term, but I submitted my application pretty late. Deathly late. I've been going through the steps like the application assessment, and I'm waiting for the criminal history packet to come in the mail. Do you think I should apply for the upcoming winter term now as a backup, or would that send an odd message?
Anonymous asked: If I applied to be a TL and a member but have only heard back about the member, does that mean I am not a candidate to be a TL?
Anonymous asked: Hi! I was recently accepted into Fall 2013 FEMA Corps! I'm excited, but I'm also thinking I would prefer traditional NCCC because it's more established. Some people seem to have had negative experiences with FEMA Corps because it's such a new program. So, if I decline the FEMA Corps offer, is it any more or less likely that I will be accepted into NCCC? Thanks!
inspiration-my-reason-for-living asked: Hey! ok so i sent in my medical and legal papers for NCCC Denver, Colorado and i wanted to know how long does it take to really find out if im 100% accepted? a month? more? less? Im just really anxious to find out if im really going! Thank you!
Anonymous asked: I'm interested in joining AmeriCorps NCCC and I have a few general questions. What did a typical day look like in terms of meals? I have a few food allergies and I'm wondering how easy it is to get access to organic/gluten-free foods. How often are girls able to wear make-up? I don't have any problems NOT wearing it but just for curiosity's sake. How does AmeriCorps deal with...
Anonymous asked: Is there time to go out and drink/dancing (without coming home to curfew) on the weekends? I do not want to sound foolish, but a social life is very important to me.
kittykatt2113 asked: Hello, I'm not sure if my last question was sent, so here it is again. I got a second finger print card and medical/mental health form in the mail yesterday. It was mailed on the 23rd the same day that I just sent out my first fingerprint card. The only thing different between the two is that in the second one it has the Online survey form with the URL link. But before I even got my first...

Anonymous asked: Hi there, so I got accepted to NCCC FEMA to Baltimore Maryland. I gOt a couple questions, what should I bring? And do you have any tips? I applied for NCCC But didn't get in & i applied to FEMA, in Febuary and got accepted today. Which was fast. Does it take longer to wait if you apply 3 months before the start date than 5 months earlier.
colorswolf asked: Hello!~ ^_^ I'm Bliss, it's a real pleasure to meet you!~ I have a good question for you.~ I have gotten both my GED and my Associates of Arts in General Studies or "Liberal Arts" and I applied to the Peace Corps.~ They rejected me, but that's ok.~ I plan of going into the AmeriCorps In order to get the expierence I need just to meet the minimum requirements for the Youth...
Anonymous asked: Hello, I just submitted my application for the Winter 2013 NCCC a few days ago. My question is: What usually comes/happens after your application has been received? Do you receive an email or any mail if they are interested in you? If you haven't heard back from the americorps people , do you suggest emailing them regarding my application?
Anonymous asked: Hey, thanks for having this blog, it's really helpful. Did you get to bring/have access to a computer? I'm a freshman in college and I wanted to take a year off for NCCC and then transfer to another school. Will I be able to work on my application? Also, I don't know if you're male or female, but how did you pack 10 months of your life into 1 duffel bag?
Anonymous asked: [last poster continuing] also, do you know of any blogs/resources out there for TL applicants? hearing about team leaders from crew members is great, and if i do get selected and decide to serve, hearing that perspective is something that I find incredibly important! however, i'd also like to hear about the app process for previous TLs and such. also, any tips for my interview on tuesday? :D
Anonymous asked: hi! i applied to be a TL for fall '13 and just heard from sacramento today—I have an interview scheduled for next tuesday!!! I'm still kind of in shock. your blog has been a great resource in the past 24 hours; a lot of what i've read in terms of the rules 'n such has made americorps seem kind of draconian and conservative....which, long story short, is not me. what...

Anonymous asked: is there any public speaking? im incredibly shy and awkward and im flipping out
Anonymous asked: This feels like a dumb question, but I want to be sure. Is there a place where I specify what term I am applying for or is it a given that you are applying for the one with an up-and-coming deadline?
Anonymous asked: First, Thank you soo muchh for all the kind, positive help you give, I really appreciate it! I also wanted to ask about the food. Is it possible to keep a majority organic intake in the nccc? I know that there's a food stipend that gets pooled to meet the teams needs, and so is it just up to the team to decide how to eat? and did you know anyone that did it? also no rush i know your swamped...
quedateluna asked: hello! Thank you so much for this blog, it's a huge help. I was recently accepted to NCCC Denver campus, and I turned in my forms/was medically cleared and all that. Today I got an email saying that I am now officially accepted, and I am assigned to "no campus/no semester." I called the hotline and they said that just means that my campus could change, but I'm still a little...
Hey friends!
So, I’ve actually become a little swamped with questions. It’s so awesome to have community around this awesome process and service work. This is just quick post to ask for your kind patience as I find time to answer all of the questions.
As always, feel free to comment to previous posts with your own perspective. :) Love ya’ll!

Anonymous asked: I was accepted to Americorps NCCC Pacific Region. I think my legal status and medical status was cleared, but was wondering what was next? Do I just keep waiting?
rr62 asked: I am applying to be a TL. I should know if I got in by April. I was wondering how was your experience with TL's ( your TL and TL's that you met). Do you have any tips for being a good TL? Thank you :)
Anonymous asked: What is your housing situation like during the program? How often do you travel?
Anonymous asked: I want to call Americorps to ask about my application because I haven't received my 1st packet in the mail and its been over 3 weeks. I'm not sure what number to call, should I call the general hotline or the office...?
Anonymous asked: My application has said 'Assessment Complete' for a few weeks. What generally tends to happen at this point? Will I get something in the mail or will I have to keep waiting until they give an answer? Should I call and ask about my status?

Anonymous asked: This is probably going to sound a bit random, but does Americorps have any appearance standards? My hair's kind of a weird length where it can get in my face but can't quite be tied back and I'm not sure if I can keep it or if I should cut it/grow it out.
Anonymous asked: Are you allowed to keep your own health insurance on the program? Because the website says their insurance doesn't cover any pre-existing conditions, and I have one. I'm not expecting it to pose an issue but I can't exactly predict when it comes and medical debt kind of sucks.
jessieninjacat asked: Hey. ok. so I received the packet in the mail. And it said something about an assessment? Is it the interview or a thing online? I'm realllyyy confused on all of this. I put in an application for fall. I have absolutely no experience in any of the subject's. But. that's why I applied. I'm trying to "Better" myself in bad situations and in life. Would they accept me if...
Anonymous asked: so im serving in Americorps nccc and ill be honest the first month was pretty crappy, CTI is painfully boring! but now im finally on spike which is great, but what do you do if your team just, well, sucks? it doesnt feel like we are a team, especially compared to other teams. what should i do? i plan on finishing the program but should i try and switch teams? i guess im just disappointed.
Anonymous asked: Should references be completed before you submit your application? Also, do references need to be completed by the due date for applications, or is it okay if they are completed later?
Anonymous asked: I am currently in the application process and i was just wondering if there is a weight limit for being accepted. I mean I'm not very fit, but I'm not too over weight. If there is a weight limit can you please let me know what weight i should get myself down to before. I am a female by the way.
Anonymous asked: Is there a specific weight limit to be able yo join AmeriCorps NCCC?
Anonymous asked: I have my application assessment soon. What does the application assessment involve?
Anonymous asked: Hey there! Thank you so much for this blog and I will continuously be using it as a resource!(: My question right now is how is the year schedule set up in terms of rounds and vacations? Do you get, say, a holiday break during winter time? Also, I am planning on applying for the fall 2014 term and deferring a year of college. Would the timing of the programs work out to fit that?
Anonymous asked: Hello. You may have been asked this many times before, but Im having trouble locating it on your blog. What qualities or characteristics do they look for in an applicant? I dont have extensive volunteer experience as others may have which worries me. However, I am truly passionate in this area and I would be greatly honored to receive any position at all. Do you think that even though I havent...
Anonymous asked: Sorry, I meant work outs! What type of work outs should I do to be prepared for NCCC?
